About Iconographie photographique de la Salpêtrière

The Iconographie photographique de la Salpêtrière (1876-1880) by Désiré-Magloire Bourneville and Paul Régnard, students of Jean-Martin Charcot, appeared as three volumes of text with separate accompanying photographs. The Iconographie was published by Progrés Médical, a weekly journal founded by Bourneville, which circulated medical news.

A landmark in medical photography and neurology, it represents the long term clinical observations of Jean-Martin Charcot at the Salpêtrière and his theories on hysteria.

There are currently 119 photographs in this collection.
